Denver Makes It High on the List of the U.S. Census

Every year following a decennial census, the US Census Bureau releases its county population estimates for July 1 of the preceding year. For the fourth time in the past five years, Denver County has led the state in population growth.

The Mile High City is No. 11 on the Census Bureau’s ranking of the 15 cities with the largest increase in the number of residents between July 1, 2011, and July 1, 2012. Denver added 14,980 residents during that time, bringing the city’s population to 634,265.

Denver’s population growth is particularly notable historically, considering that Denver lost population in the 1970s and 1980s.
