Just Walk Out Your Door

We read a great article about Colorado’s reputation for having healthy citizens.  We asked our resident fitness expert for her opinion, and here is what she had to say:

What a great choice we’ve made to live in Colorado-what a great time of year to get out and enjoy it!  There are numerous reports that claimColoradohas the fewest obese residents (not a bad reputation to have).  Here’s how we can keep it that way:

Checkout your local parks and recreation department or Colorado State Parks to find a park close to you.

Walk out your door and go for a walk, run or ride a bike (please wear a helmet!).  Walking can be boring you say? only if you let it be.  A great way to add to your walk (or run) is to include sit-ups, bench dips (find a stable bench and sit down – slide your fanny to the edge and off the bench and slowly bend your elbows to 90 degrees and push back up), high steps, high skips, push-ups (and, yes, from your knees is cool – great form is most important) and/or even jumping jacks every ¼, ½ or mile.  Mix and match as you like, doing anywhere from 5 to 10 repetitions each time.  You will not get bored and you’ll give yourself a great all-bodywork-out.  Aim for 30 minutes of activity every day.
