Say Goodbye to Incandescent Bulbs for Good

Come January 1st, not too many realize that 40W and 60W incandescent bulbs will hit their final phase-out stage of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, meaning these bulbs will officially cease to be manufactured and imported to the United States.

Philips has decided to kick off the New Year with a 60-watt LED equivalent bulb offering an eye-catching profile and energy savings of 85% compared to the inferior bulb it’s designed to replace. For a high-quality LED with a lifespan of nearly 23 years, the price (still undisclosed by Philips but most likely in the sub-$10 range) will be reasonable as well.

Home Depot, the world’s largest seller of light bulbs, will exclusively offer the Philips SlimStyle LED bulb starting January 2nd.

A sizable number of people have said they’re planning on stockpiling old bulbs. What about you? Do you have plans to usher in 2014 with some household light bulb switches? Perhaps slimming down your monthly energy bills with new LED?
