Colorado employers added 3,700 payroll jobs in January, while the state’s unemployment rate was unchanged from December at 4.2 percent.
Unemployment in the state is down 1.6 percentage points from the revised January 2014-rate of 5.8 percent. According to those revised estimates, Colorado unemployment peaked at 8.9 percent in September and October 2010.
In January, 2,709,500 Coloradans counted themselves as employed, and 118,200 unemployed people were actively seeking work. Over the last 12 months, employment in the state has risen by 80,600 and labor-force participation is up 38,100, while unemployment has declined by 42,500.
Colorado’s 4.2 percent unemployment rate in January was a full point and a half lower than the month’s national rate of 5.7 percent. According to newly revised data, It’s the lowest jobless rate in the state since December 2007.
