It’s Never Too Early to Prepare for Fires

May 30, 2014

A recent report released by the Obama administration warns Colorado and neighboring states about the potential impact of climate change causing a growing threat of drought, wildfires and shorter ski seasons in years to come. This massive “National Climate Assessment” is the broadest official review of the U.S. impact of climate change ever compiled.

While it’s too early to determine what the 2014 fire season will be like, there are precautions that are always a good idea to keep in mind.

  • Keep trees and shrubs healthy and trimmed.
  • Mow grass regularly.
  • Clear a 10-foot area around propane tanks and the barbecue.
  • Review your homeowner’s insurance policy and also prepare/update a list of your home’s content.
  • Compile a disaster kit.
