SunShare LLC, a Denver-based community solar power developer, has signed its largest single-customer power-supply contract with Hyland Hills Park and Recreation District.
The 1.4 megawatt supply deal is believed to be among the largest contracts for any community solar developer in the country.
Community solar power developers build larger solar power systems, typically 500 kilowatts to 2 megawatts, for customers that buy or lease individual power-generating panels in the systems. The customers receive credit from their utility, in this case, Xcel Energy, for the power generated by the panels.
It’s a way for customers who can’t or won’t put solar power panels on their roofs or property to take part in a larger system located elsewhere.
“It’s a win-win, win situation. We’re helping Xcel Energy meet its renewable energy requirements; we’re helping SunShare, a Colorado company, create jobs here in Colorado; and the District is saving money on our electricity bills,” Harlan Bryant, District Engineer for Hyland Hills Park & Recreation District, recently stated.
The 1.4 megawatts SunShare will generate for Hyland Hills is equivalent to the power needed to support more than 300 homes for 20 years.
SunShare is currently developing projects in five Colorado counties: El Paso, Arapahoe, Adams, Jefferson, and Denver.
