Time to Hire a Realtor®: The Questions to Ask

Apr 29, 2015

“Selling your home is a big deal – so while it may be tempting to go with the first word-of-mouth recommendation you get, when it comes to choosing a real estate agent, it pays to do a bit more research… To make an informed choice, ask friends and neighbors for personal recommendations, but also take the time to interview several of the best candidates before making a decision.” – Houzz.com

Bottom line, selling your home is a huge deal and it is no easy task to go in alone. One of the best things you can do for yourself and your sanity is to hire a Realtor® to help you each step of the way. While it is easy to go off of word of mouth, we recommend you also do your research and ask potential Realtors® some questions before hiring them.

Experience and Education
Though a new real estate agent can be very motivated and eager to please, a professional with a few years under their belt will have more knowledge of the market as well as possess the skills to handle unexpected challenges. Realtors® continuously educate themselves and stay up-to-date on all changes within their field.

At Alaris, we are experienced in selling luxury homes in the Colorado Front Range, but will help any buyer or seller with their dream home no matter the price range. Our founder Jon Terry is both Realtor® and an attorney who is experienced and educated in matters relating to real estate. Jon has a keen ability to analyze complex situations and come up with creative solutions. Jon has become a professional problem solver, and believes that service through humility produces mutual reward.

Are you a member of the National Association of Realtors®?
This is an important question to ask because not all agents are part of the National Association of Realtors® (Alaris team members are Realtors®).

Do you work on your own, or as a team?
While many real estate agents work solo, having an agent who is part of a real estate team offers a wider range of experts to help you with the buying and/or selling process. Here at Alaris, we will work with you individually, but know that, behind each agent, you have a team who is willing to help along the way.

Questions you should always ask (we’ll gladly tell you the answers over coffee):

  • How many homes have you sold?
  • What neighborhoods do you work in?
  • How close to the asking price is the final sale price on homes you have sold?

These are a few questions Alaris would recommend, but we are serious when we say call us and let us take you for a cup of coffee to discuss further. We want to make sure you find your best match when looking for a Realtor®.
